Lyme Disease

Perhaps a little different from the usual subjects but hey.

National Lyme Disease charity Lyme Disease Action has started a campaign to get anybody affected by Lyme disease to write to their MP's to complain about the poor standard of care given by the NHS.

Details here www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk Click the big red "Lobby for Lyme" link.

Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection passed on by bites from tiny ticks. It can be caught anywhere in the country. Most GP's know little about it, so rely on the deeply flawed information provided by the health authorities. This results in many sufferers being misdiagnosed with MS, ME, Lupus and other disorders, and means the true number of sufferers is probably much higher than is officially recognised.

The official view is that it is very rare, but easily diagnosed with blood tests, and easy to treat with a short course of antibiotics. There is a lot of good evidence that shows this is not the case.

Lyme disease typically starts with severe flu-like symptoms, which never fully go away, and can develop into debilitating physical exhaustion, joint pain, and neurological symptoms such as numbness, pins and needles and more pain.

I have had Lyme for nearly two years, and it is horrible Cry . After eight months of antibiotics I am well on the way to recovery Smiley, but I have had to go to a private specialist to get treated.

This is a national scandal, and must be fought, so please, if you have been affected yourself, or know anyone else who has, then join in.

Any questions, feel free...
