How do you do that ??

Hi
Now don't know if this is the right place to ask but.
I spend a lot of time reading the forums and often see things like
this in posts.

Someone in a post may be directing another poster to,lets say a web link
but instead of a link like this* www.freeserve.co.uk* it will most likely say
*here* or maybe *contact us*,clicking takes you to the site.

So how is this *here* linked to a site please.Computer thick afraid.

How do you do that ??

Contact Us can be done by putting the word link: before contact us (i've bolded it to make it easier to understand.

Links such as my website can be done as following, however replace the normal brackets with square ones.

(url=http://fa55.net)my website(/url)

How do you do that ??

Yes.

Originaly, key words like "service status" and "contact us" where automaticaly turned into links.

However, people started posting topics with them works in the title. This caused all sort of rpoblems, like being unable to visit the thread.

I made the sugestion of link: prior to those keys words. It saves typeing out the full linker version, and requires only 5 key presses more than the text.

Thus "link: contact us" with the space removed, turns into link:contact us.

I can't remember all the key words, but link:service status is another.

A fat load of good that is if it's not standard phpBB, but is a non-standard, PlusNet-added feature which has not been publically documented and so remains known only to a handful of "insiders"!

Where are these PlusNet-added features documented?

(It's noticeable that there's a subtle difference between link: Contact us and url Contact us, as shown here: (linkSmiley link:Contact us ; (url) Contact us).

It is actualy perform by the automatic swear word filter system.

Here is a list of the current key words from Free-online (only true set of data I have), though most should be valid here

  • ADSL Forum
  • CGI Forum
  • contact us
  • Forum Guidelines
  • Ideas Forum
  • Service Status
  • Support Pages

As noted, the key words without the link: prefix where originaly used. But they interfeared with the some of the operations when used in topic names and such.

The link: prefix was added after a sugestion I made. People where never informed of the original functionality and never updated after the change, so there not strickly secretive.

There's also a "For Sale Forum" one here. And of course, more can be made if necessary!
