Having to use dialup to kickstart broadband

I've just sent a query to F9 about this, but I thought I would see if anyone else has had a similar problem.

I seem to have a very perculiar connection problem. 9 times out of 10 I will get a 'can't connect' error trying to use the ADSL modem. However, if I dial in with the 56k modem first, within about 60 seconds the ADSL will begin and I can then discounnect the dial-up and use the ADSL.

I have tried removing the dial-up completely, so that only the adsl is connectde to the phone line, but then I simply get no adsl connection.

Anyone experienced this, or have any ideas?
