we receive smtp email at our domain but if for some reason, our adsl is down, smtp email (mostly spam) gets sent to the force9 autoturn server: autoturn.plus.net.uk.
However, our adsl connection/firewall/mail server is not normally down and support confirmed that our adsl connection had been active for over a week
yet we get thousands of emails sent to the autoturn server.
I have a cron job which runs finger firstname.lastname@example.org
but not sure how well this has been working as I have not included any logging in my script.
However, even if it has been failing (twice a day), when I manually ran this this morning, there were 170k emails ready to be delivered since the last time I manually ran this last week.
Why are the emails going to this server when our connection is apparently up?
Our email server has been handling email for some time without any problems but every few days, slowing right down, probably due to the amount of emails comming in.
