Crating a forum on my site.

I have not really used .PHP but i have managed to download a php forum i think, well a .zip folder containing all the needed files and folders, but i am not sure how i go about putting it onling, i know i need to put it into my cgi folder, but i am not sure what i need to do get the forum to work, i thikn i need something called MY SQL never used it before either, and not sure how much that will cost, but would like to get a reasonably nice forum running online, for people to post mesages on certain topics.

Be nice to get to know how to usethese programes, i have heard that using MY SQL is an expensive way of doing things, but could be interesting. If anyone knows anyways in which i can get this to work then let me know, phpBB-2.0.6.zip is the name of the file, not sure if anyone has ever used it?

Cheers anyone who can give me any guidance on this.

There is an easy to follow guide on setting up phpBB here. Note that first of all you need CGI and mySQL enabled from the appropriate options on https://portal.f9.net.uk/my.html?action=mywebsite and that CGI can take up to 4 days to be fully working.

If you don't want to use PHP and MYSQL, you can use something like YABB (http://www.yabbforum.com/) which I use. It is easy to install and very customisable.

If you want to see what the YABB forum looks like, mine is here: http://cgi.didit.force9.co.uk/cgi-bin/discus/yabb/YaBB.pl

A few files to upload, a few folders to chmod and then all the changes can be made within the programme itself.

I CHMODed the files and folders all to 777 at the moment, i made a folder inside the cgi-bin called forum and tried to go there by going to http://cgi.rogerdean.force9.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl but got nothing just an internal server error?

Not sure if i have done something wrong that needs correcting
