Ive currently got a D-Link DI-634M wireless network running a-okay at the moment, my mate round the corner (less than 100m away) wants to browse internet sometimes and we like playing LAN games alot so i tried to see if my wireless network would reach his house, it didnt, but it was close.

I heard that you can get these cateannas that have boosted networks upto 4miles in a certain direction, im just wondering how i could do it and attach an external attenna to my DI-634M.

I also have a Linksys WAG354G which gives the DI-634M network its internet, the Linksys currently has an antenna port not in use, would i have to use that? what else would i need?

100 metres should be no problem, providing you have direct line of sight.

See the following links about cantenna

They are really a diy project. So I hope you are handy with the soldering iron.

As for using your router, if it had two antenna ports then normally the second is receive only, so you can not use that. Plus the wireless device needs to be next to the cantenna, so I personal would go for a wireless bridge (or access point with bridging mode) at each end, use the same model at both ends and check compatibility.

Some one is even selling a pair together.

Another tip to increase your range is to use 500mW US spec equipment.
In Europe 802.11x is limited to 100mW where as in the US they can use up to 500mW.

Its technical legal, but who will find out.
