Can't find .htpasswd

It would appear my .htaccess file can't find the .htpasswd file

The CGI activation eMail I received doesn't provide the server number that I need...

Here is the .htaccess file :
ErrorDocument 401 /error403.php

ErrorDocument 403 /error403.php
ErrorDocument 404 /error404.php

AuthUserFile /home/mjkerr/status/admin/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName "Server Status Admin"
AuthType Basic
<Limit GET PUT POST>
require user mjkerr
</Limit>

If you login to the CGI server using telnet or ssh (tutorial) and type "pwd" and press enter you will be given the path to the root of your CGI space, probably of the form /files/home/username.

Is SSH the only way to do it?
I have severe problems getting my firewall to permit Putty...

You can use telnet... also according to the tutorial, the path is /files/home/username on F9 but I couldn't gurantee that.

Both telnet (MSDOS prompt) and SSH are not permitted from this PC, because of the firewall I have in place (I've experienced too many DoS attacks at home, and I don't trust my brother as far as I can throw him!)

I permitted access to PuTTY
It is horrificly slow...
I've logged and typed
pwd
Finally got my absolute path

Full Firewall back in place...

Cheers, I try to avoid using SSH whereever possible

Good Good - I have the benefit of being the only person in the house who actually uses the net so I know what I can allow myself to do and don't need to worry about other people mucking things up.

According to the "passwd" file (cat /etc/passwd | grep mjkerr), your "home" directory is
    /files/home/mjkerr
but /home is a link to /files/home, so either /home/mjkerr or /files/home/mjkerr should work. You will probably find your $HOME environment variable has been set to /files/home/mjkerr.

Turns out I was using the wrong username!
It works now but the files within the restricted area don't seem to work...
All I get is a blank page
Strange as all my other php scripts are now working fine

SSH is the safest method of logging into a remote machine as the data is encrypted end to end. Also, Winblows doesn't run an SSH client unless you start it i.e. putty
