As long as you tell the taxman, and pay tax on whatever you earn at the weekend, then yes its legal.
You may have to check your contract with your main employer, as many have clauses about working in competition/for a competitor. As long as there is no issue there then you are well within your rights to work weekends.

As James said, you'll need to check your employment contract from your current job regarding additional work to ensure this is not being breached. Some contracts have no clauses at all, some prohibit what they define as 'working for a competitor' (so if you working within the same area this could be a problem). Some have an exclusive employment clause so technically don't permit you to have any additional job!

In statutory terms, you're fine - but if you have something in your contract and breach it, then your current employers are within their right to dismiss you.

In terms of paying tax, I believe you would normally keep your tax code for your first job, and be on the 'BR' code for the second job. BR means basic rate and that all of your income is taxed. The reason your personal allowance will already have been used from your first job's income. So all you need to do is make your employers and the Inland Revenue (or HM Revenue & Customers as it is now) aware that is what you should be on.
