Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

I have recently noticed wi-fi disconnections occurring several times a day which I thought was maybe a poor wi-fi signal to my computer but on checking the event log it appears that I have actually been disconnected.  Am I right?  Some of the events at the bottom (last 4 or 5 items) occurred before I was even online in the morning.
Another weird thing that is happening is when I log into the router it says I have the wrong user name or password even though the first time this happened I re-entered it and saved it but next time I tried to log in it again said it was incorrect and I then have to do it manually.  Are the two related are just a coincidence?

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

You have included your IP address - you may want to remove it
The Firewall logs are attempts to get in by a third party and nothing to worry about
They do not have anything to do with the problem you are seeing
Regarding login - which browser are you using
Which router are you using

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Thanks Jim, I have taken them out.  I think I got them all.  By the way, are you looking younger these days!
The firewall logs seem to occur when I get a notification that I am now connected.  (I'm using XP - yes I know!) and it flags up a notification every time it connects and disconnects.
I'm using Opera browser and the router is a Technicolor TG582N.
So the red exclamation marks I'm getting on the log, are they not actual disconnections, just warnings?

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

That is correct
However there is something wrong as there are numerous failed logins and one wireless failure
LOGIN wireless station [00:18:de:b5:6f:d5] can't get authorized.
Is that one of your devices
The failed logins are not from the same device if there wasn't a loss of connection in between
Have you got several devices connected to the router or was there a loss of connection to the router between them
Were those multiple attempts to login all you
One thing which is concerning is that the IP address of the devices is 1.77 and 1.80 whereas normally the router allocates addresses starting at about 1.67
If you go into the router how many devices are connected - this link should take you to it http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/devs/ov/?be=0&l0=4&l1=0

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Thanks for your response Jim.  Yes, the failed logins are all me.  00:18:de:b5:6f:d5 looks like it's my computer.  I don't know why my logins aren't working.  I just deleted the password and saved it again when I was doing the original post so I know it is correct and yet it says it is not recognised, that's why I keep trying to login.  I've got nothing physically connected to the router, everything is wireless, two computers and two printers.
It shows there are 4 devices connected: my computer, 2 printers and one "unknown" but it says it's "inactive".  I think this may be the other computer as it's not switched on today.

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

It does look as the computer is losing the wifi signal
try using inSSIDer to check the channels being used by other networks around you http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

So Jim do you think I am not actually losing my Plusnet connection, just my wi-fi connection?  The router is only 10 feet away from me.
I've used InSSIDer at home and, to be honest, it is a bit unfathomable to me.  Given that I'm in Newcastle city centre it must be like spaghetti junction so it's going to be even worse.
Could any Plusnet staff check for disconnections for me?

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Here's your connection graph (Broadband)
<img src="http://community.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image13975789187188.png"/>
It looks as though it could be the Wireless Dropping out. You could try using a different Wireless Channel as per: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/technicolor-582n-wireless.shtml

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Non of the log entries refer to losing the internet connection

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Thanks Jim and Chris.  I'll have a look tomorrow at changing the channel to see if that makes any difference.  I don't know if this is also happening with the other computer as it's not used online as much but I think I need to check that too.

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

It's me again.  I am definitely losing my connection.  I have just been cut off 3 times and the router "broadband" light was off.  I was on ebay at the time and suddenly my page changed to the Technicolor Gateway page and although my password is saved it said it was incorrect, but that's by the by I think.
The log shows PP Link Up 3 times but no PP Link down which I have had on my home broadband before but as this is a business line I was expecting a more consistent service.
Can anyone throw any light on the subject - it can't be down to wireless use surely if the router is going off and on.  Thanks.

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Hi LynnpinABS,
I've just checked your connection:
<img src="http://community.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image14017235069381.png"/>
I can see a couple of drops, are these the drops that you've noticed. We can't see any other drops, than those on the graph.

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

According to the event log I have PP Link Up at 15:11:49,  and 16:09:57 and PP Link Down at 16:07:09.

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

That correlates with the above graph.
It seems a little strange that it's been stable for quite some time then for a couple of drops to emerge. Can you let us know if you have further drops?

Re: Wi-Fi Disconnections and Firewall ICMP Check

Yes I'll let you know Chris.  The trouble is it's difficult to know when it happens because I wait so long for pages to render normally that by the time I realise it's off it could be back on again. This is the first time I've noticed the router going off and on so I was lucky to catch it.  But I do also have the signal coming up in Windows to say that "you are now connected" several times a day.
