Slow remote connection

I am having speed problems with a remote connection. I work from home on a windows 8 pc with a plusnet adsl connection and log on to the work computer using Chrome Remote Desktop. The work computer is windows 7 with a plusnet adsl connection. Both computers use the technicolor routers supplied by plusnet. The work computer runs Backblaze online backup. I am finding it takes up to an hour to log on to the remote computer and turn off Backblaze. As soon as Backblaze is off there is no problem. I have also tried connecting with LogMeIn and have the same problems. I contacted Plusnet support and they have removed the cap on the upstream data on the work computer. This has not helped. I previously used a TalkTalk connection with a Belkin router and had no problems.  I have contacted Plusnet support again and they have directed me to your forum.
Please can you help.

There are a number of known performance issues with Chrome Remote Desktop, one of which is slow or inconsistent performance during a remote session. Google are currently investigating but nothing more is known.
LogMeIn is usually pretty good. I take it your portforwarding and firewall rules have all been double checked?
I VPN regularly using my Plusnet business account and it's perfect. The traffic priority for VPN is high so it wont be that.
Not so sure that the Technicolour is the best for VPN though to be fair.

Logmein no longer offers a free version, teamviewer is probably a better option.
