I've set up my mac to send and receive email, but when I "roam" and connect via wifi hotspots I can't send any emails. Is there something I need to do? Some setting somewhere?
Thanks,
Graham

I've just seen something in the "common issues" and it seems I need SMTP authentication which is only available to subscription accounts. What is a subscription account? One that is paid for monthly? Like mine? Is it something I just need to request?
Thanks!
Graham

It's where you pay monthly so if you are on Plusnet ADSL you are on a subscription account.
The none subscription accounts are mainly those who are on dialup PAYG accounts.
Note that the SMTP authentication will work when you are on a Plusnet connection so you don't need to wait until you are out and about to try this out. In fact reconfiguring it while on the Plusnet connection is a good idea as you might get caught out by other ISPs that block access to external SMTP - knowing it was working would point you in the right direction.

Thanks.
Presumably some authentication setting needs adding to my account though, so username and password can be requested (like pop3)?

Ooh, I've just tried it and it works!
I had SSL set as well as authentication, so either some setting was changed or that's what was stopping it working.
Cheers,
Graham
