Requests getting lost in Plusnet route so returns 404 for valid domain.

Hi All,

signformltd.co.uk is held at 123-reg and points to my static plusnet ip. For 99.999% of people it resolves correctly.

If a browser from IP address 81.136.39.248 makes this http request it returns a 404 not found.

A trace shows it is getting lost at gi13-0-3-454.ptn-ag04.plus.net [84.93.253.86]. How can I get plusnet to update the dns records.

It was not previously urgent bit this has been over a month since the dns record was updated so I would have thought it should have updated by now. Who's got a big stick to prod it please Smiley

Thanks for reading, have a good one.

Stu.

That domain name points to 212.159.21.30 which I believe tone a central Plusnet server. Poking that URL into a browser successfully links to a draft website.

HOWEVER www.signformltd.co.uk does indeed give a 404 error. Have you configured your web service to respond to a www. Prefixed URL?

Thanks for the reply

The trace from 81.136.39.248 for signformltd.co.uk is being lost at gi13-0-3-454.ptn-ag04.plus.net [84.93.253.86] which is a plusnet server.

I've added the www subdomain binding now which was always my intention once the site is complete but that's not the real issue. If you see the site with a TLD request then your dns routing is fine but anyone making a request which is routed via the above server to the TLD will get a 404 when it should resolve.

How do I get plusnet to action a dns flush/update on gi13-0-3-454.ptn-ag04.plus.net [84.93.253.86]?

Thanks

Stu.

Hi Stu

Sorry for the delayed staff response, could you post up a copy of a full traceroute?

Feel free to PM me it if you prefer though.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Hi there,

As the IP seems to load the site that seems to indicate that your web server is doing the right job, however as the URL fails to load it that's likely to mean that the DNS records with 1&1 aren't set up correctly so it would be worth checking those next.
