Fixed IP Address and Plusnet Webspace

Hi, Can anyone explain how the fixed IP address on plusnet works. If I browse to a site that tells me my IP address, I get the fixed IP address I expect. Now I understand that refers to my router and NAT sorts out the to and froing from my pcs attached to the router. I wanted a fixed IP address so that I could then access my router from a public place, set up a VPN and also, run a web server. However I notice that the Plus net website that I currently have a holding page on, if pinged, gives the same IP address. So the only thing I can think of is, if an http request comes into my router, it sends it off the the Plusnet site , so to run my own web server, I'm going to have to edit forwarding on ports 80 and 443 (if I use HTTPS). Is that correct, or have I got it all wrong?
TIA

You are correct, you need to forward the ports 80 and or 443 on the router to the web server to allow access from outside of the network via http / https.

Are you getting to your Plusnet webspace by going to www.username.plus.com? When pinging are you just pinging username.plus.com? If memory serves me correctly (which it may not be!) then the www address should resolve to the homepage servers at Plusnet and the one without www would resolve to your static IP.
As has been said though, yes you would need to set up port forwarding to get those ports through to your server.

Your memory is sound. The difference between username.plus.com and www.username.plus,com has caught the best of us out in times past! We presume that these are always the same at our peril.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
