Business broadband fixed IP keeps being added to Spamhaus PBL

Spamhaus seem to think this is happening because the IP is in Plusnet's declared range for dynamic or home user accounts and therefore should not be sending email.

We've removed the IP a couple of times of the last year or so but it eventually ends-up back on the PBL.

Can PN do anything to prevent recurrences?

(PBL is a list of IP addresses which are typically allocated to home users or dynamic allocation ranges, and therefore which are regarded as 'suspicious' if they are sending email. It has nothing to do with actually sending spam.)

Hi @iwrconsultancy

In regards to prevention of your IP address being re-added to Spamhaus PBL I'm afraid we cannot add any further information than what has been advised here.

Thank you.

I thought the recommendation was to relay through Plusnet's server which avoids this issue?

Not sure what PN's retry time limit is, but in the general case the problem with relaying is that when problems arise at the recipient's end, messages held in queue can get delivered hours or days after sending. Which can lead to confusing situations if the deal has already been struck by phone.

Better if it either goes through promptly or the delivery cancelled and the sender informed. We set a one hour limit, so the staff know that they can safely make alternative arrangements after that time.

Re: Business broadband fixed IP keeps being added to Spamhaus PBL

Well that makes a refreshing change - someone having made a decision not to relay through the Plusnet servers for a totally logical reason!

Not that that helps you. I've never heard of Plusnet having a separate IP range for business users with fixed IPs.

Re: Business broadband fixed IP keeps being added to Spamhaus PBL

From the last time I looked at this, I was led to believe that we had requested certain ranges are not added to the PBL list. Problem is, I think there's some dynamic logic in place at Spamhaus' side that relists if activity synonymous with dynamic IP's is spotted from hosts in the range.

Advice would be to take the issue up directly with them, as frustrating as that may be.
