Don't unplug or pull out the Mk3 filter & modem/router socket bit though - hold them in place as your remove the lower plate. I'd expect it to be wired correctly otherwise BB sync speed would be down the drain completely.

Well done for that, can you post the current stats as well?
The Firmware isn't the latest, but if the current version is giving you a stable connection, which it seems to be, I wouldn't be rushing to upgrade - but for the record has this one got as USB socket on it? Some of those with 8.4.4.J did, others didn't.
Don't need the log every time, and that is sufficient for now anyway, you've got the hang of where to go, what to get etc.
The thing is to look at the GUI log promptly if you notice an issue with the connection - as you can see the log is full of -
"SNTP Synchronised again to server:" and can be of
"FIREWALL icmp check (1 of 1): Protocol: ICMP Src ip: 94.23.85.254 Dst ip: 212.159.xxx.xx Type: Destination Unreachable Code: Port Unreacheable" also
"IDS scan parser : tcp port scan: 54.201.150.142 scanned at least 10 ports at 212.159.xxx.xx. (1 of 1) : 54.201.150.142 212.159.xxx.xx 0040 TCP 443->57035 [...R..] seq 1128186857 win 0"
and so entries that can be of use disappear from view.  We can change the frequency of  "SNTP Synchronised again to server:" so that it only does it every say 12 or 24 hours, I could never see the point of it doing it hourly by default Roll_eyes
I'll post the Telnet commands in a later post, is Telnet activated on your OS .. which is?

My jaw is still dropping a bit on how low (excellent) those errors are  Smiley    That SNRM variation doesn't sound like anything to be worried about, but maybe shortly we could consider taking a more detailed look at it.

To enable Telnet
    Click Start > Control Panel.
    Click Programs and Features.
    Click Turn Windows features on or off.
    In the Windows Features dialog box, check the Telnet Client check box.
    Click OK. The system installs the relevant files.
Pictures if they help can be seen here  Also, are you familiar with opening a Command Prompt Window?

Just to check, when you open the cmd prompt, it starts you in c:\Users\yourname  directory(folder)?
What I do is dump the output to a file (the -f is to send it to a file named events##.log) by typing the following
telnet -f events##.log 192.168.1.254
you get prompted for your TG582n username (default is admin in lower case as you probably know and the password begins CP as you probably know. At the telnet prompt type
syslog msgbuf show hist=enabled
When the output has finished, type  exit  at the prompt.
You can look at the folder listing of the file(s) using Windows Explorer or what ever you choose to view folders and files.
What I do then is rename the telnet##.log file replacing the ## with a number,  01 for the first, 02 for the second etc. assuming you want to keep them. By doing it that way I don't have to remember what number I got to when doing the Telnet command for the nth time Wink    If you don't rename it, the next one you do will just overwrite the previous.
You can open that log file in a text viewer and do a copy and paste not forgetting to redact you Dst ip: address.

How are you getting on then? Managed to wade your way through the Telnet log?
It would probably be a good idea to start thinking about a bit of automated monitoring which might give us some feel for how intermittent the problem is that you don't actually notice because it doesn't cause a loss of sync every time.

I'm not seeing a telnet log ... I've attached the screenshot I get when I try the cmd telnet /? ... any ideas how to fix this/

Well done for that, spot on and suitably redacted Wink  I guess you also found the file event##.log in your C:\Users\admin directory (folder) ?
As you can see, the log has got a lot of those hourly SNTP entries filling it up, but never the less not too many that it still goes back (just - bar 28 seconds) to when the 582n last booted up on the 24th.  Entries with a code <132> and a code <173> are ones to try and spot when having a quick glance at the file if there are any issues.
Looking at entries prior to <173> can be important especially the ones that would say things like "Kernel Cold Restart" or "Kernel Warm Restart".  The former occur at a power up (& obviously after a power interruption), the latter if something triggers a Reboot.
You'll note the entries that are Jan 1, they are part of the boot sequence that occurs before the the first SNTP synchronisation (which usually happens in the first 5 minutes). If we were still on BST there would be an hour jump on one of the entries after the first SNTP.
Now we can reduce the frequency of he SNTP checks, how frequently do you want it to do it? It's not exactly critical. I personally changed mine to every 24hrs.
I'll post up how to do that in my next post.
The log also obviously shows you've not had a drop in  sync since boot - some 5 1/4 days previously at time of your posting. So some good news.

Good to know the line has been stable for the past few days. We haven't had any wild weather yet, tho the forecast is for some wild weather in the early hours of Wednesday morning, so we'll see how the line copes with that Smiley
If there are some lines of no interest, i could replace them with a blank if that would make it easier to spot the interesting bits?
