wireless name

If I change my wireless name from PlusnetWireless to something else will all the devices that currently connect to it need to be changed in some way too or with the same password  will they just find it as normal and work?
If not, what will be involved?

Re: wireless name

All devices using wireless will need the Wireless Name (SSID) changing.
What is involved, it depends on the device.

Re: wireless name

I'd not personally regard that as much of a bind, but I suppose I do spend some time doing that sort of things regularly.
If you're wanting to do that for security reasons I'd perhaps just change the passkey that way your devices should then prompt you for the new one when you come to try and reconnect to the router.

Nothing so sensible  Grin  I've told so many people about the wonders of PlusNet that my local cafe now have it too (and offer free wireless) but because they are both called the same, once I connect to one I have to go through the whole sign-in process when I get home as it's forgotten mine!

Re: wireless name

That makes sense, working for Plusnet I do obviously recommend our services to friends and family and have the same fun connecting to wifi on my phone when visiting them.

Re: wireless name

SSID naming can be fun.  Call me sad but when ever I go away with work I take a spare router with me and the SSID is called "Free Porn".  It is amaziong how many people in the same hotel try to connect to it, then the fun really begins.
I have been known to leave the spare router as open access when at home and put various neighbours surnames in as the SSID, most other neighbours will then try and connect, obviously thinking they have cracked their neighbours wi-fi.  If I put an old laptop connected to it acting as a server with files on it (random crap downloaded fom the web) you then see how many of your neighbours are nosey and download stuff Smiley

I really must get out more.

Re: wireless name

Ho Ho,
There's a chap who runs a very good website on paving and all ground works:  "paving expert" or something.
One of his pages is entitled "hard core"  which is a perfectly correct term for the stuff that goes down as a sub-base below gravel/paving/ etc.
Strange to report, he finds this page is the most popular from his webstats logs - presumably found by search engines and eagerely located by perverts hoping to find some free filth and find themselves looking at a load of gravel instead..........
