Could anyone tell what would be the best way to boost my wi fi signal from a 2704n router to the top floor of a three storey house.

Mains extender kit may not be suitable as 3 floors will likely be on different electrical circuit.
This may be a solution.

The only way to guarantee the best possible speed is to install an Ethernet cable and fit an Access Point on the top floor. Powerline devices or range extenders might work, all that you can do with these is suck it and see.
