well that was weird

This morning noticed that the net wasn't working too well, but had to go out.
Whilst out received an email saying the broadband phone account at gone offline so I looked at the ping graph:

It seems that there was a steady degradation and by the time I got home the connection authentication light on the router was out, though the DSL light on the vDSL modem was still solid.
Switching the router off for 10 mins seems to have sorted it out, but wonder if there's anything i should be concerned about e.g. the router failing because of the gradual decline.
Any thoughts welcome..

Hi dvorak,
I've had a check over your connection and it's currently performing very well and has been prior to this interruption.

It doesn't look like it anything to worry about. Was there anything different connected to your phone line at the time?

Might be worth keeping a note of which Gateway you are on at any time. It certainly looks like something declined rather rapidly over that 2 hour interval and it might have been the change of Gateway and associated routing that made the difference. If it starts to occur again, try running a few Traceroutes to ntp.plus.net, bbc.co.uk before the connection becomes unusable.

Re: well that was weird

thanks for the replies, nothing new attached at all - literally we all got up, noticed the net was a sluggish but left it and went out.
powering off the router for a bit solved it.
if (hopefully not) it happens again and i'm around I'll check the gateway. no one else's ping graphs were showing signs of anything odd at the same time.
