First post so be gentle!!
Right, I need to get my windows 7 pc to VPN to work, however I am having some issues.
I have altered the firewall on my plusnet thomson TG582N router to off but looking at the toolbox it still shows standard settings despite numerous reboots.
I have also followed MrW's work around here http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,102798.0.html ;
I have unbound "connection unbind application PPTP port 1723" and also unbound "connection unbind application IKE" but still I cannont connect?
I also tried to disable NET however this seemed to shut my internet access down so I re enabled that.
The only thing I can think that is stopping it now is the firewall. Is there a way of using cmd to reduce the firewall setting ?
I get error 800 the VPN tunnel failed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated guys.
Regards Mark

connection unbind application=ESP
saveall
I would double check IKE is unbound with the command
connection bindlist
Also ensure the PC is configured to obtain it's IP address via DHCP.
IMO these routers are not good at opening ports for devices on a static IP.

This is the default config for the firewall:
firewall config state=enabled keep=disabled tcpchecks=none udpchecks=enabled icmpchecks=enabled
saveall
Very much doubt messing with the firewall will help, but good luck with this.
Is the VPN PC on a dynamic IP?

Cheers for that. I will have a try and see.
I need to speak to our IT guy to find out if the server has dynamic ip.
Its seems like hard work to get something that imho should be simple to do. I wonder why plusnet do not address the problem directly. I am sure there are many customers than need to be able to vpn into work.
Thanks for the advice.

No, I mean your PC, the one you're using to access the VPN server.
The Technicolor router can sometimes have problems opening ports for devices set to a static IP address. IMO this is key to a lot of port forwarding problem people have with this router.
If this was my problem, I would:
1) ensure your PC's network config is set to "automatically obtain the IP address".
2) Do a factory reset on the tg582n ( ensure you know your plusnet username and password first cos you'll need to re-enter them in the router.
3) Try the vpn. -- if it still doesn't work:
4) try the following telnet commands to the router:
connection unbind application=IKE port=500-500
connection unbind application=ESP
saveall
http://npr.me.uk/vpnissue.html
6) If vpn still doesn't work check the software firewall on the PC.
Good luck.
