The BBC i-player can work in two ways. if you stream downloads then you are watching it as you download and the usage is straightforward. However, if you download things to watch later then you open up your PC as a sort of server for what you download. This means that your PC will be sharing data with others on the i-player. This is extra usage that you can avoid by shutting the i-player between downloads or by sticking to streaming.

Or, if you're technical enough, just kill Kservice.

Quote from: podman If it's all traffic then i may need to leave pn after all these years as I plan to do more iplayer etc.
Isn't this likely to be the same for all ISPs? And if not, surely you'd still come under their FUP?

I think your question is answered in the following thread:
Does upload get included in the Bandwidth Allowance calculation?
The actual answer is about halfway down on this page.

Zen charges £17.99 for 5GB of download but unlimited upload - see here.
PN Charges £14.99 for 15GB total usage in peak time (usage isn't counted overnight).
Essentially you pay for upload either way - with Zen you get a smaller download allowance to compensate for "unlimited uploads".
