very slow upload speeds

I've been away for a few days and I come back to a very odd situation.  My download speed is about what i'm used to 600+ kbps, but my upload speed is virtually none existant 12kbps.
I've got some figures from my router, don't know what they mean though.
Type Interleave
Status No Defect
      Downstream       Upstream
Data rate (Kbps          1184                448
Noise margin (dB) 7.7       12.0
Output power (dBm) 16.4              12.0
Attenuation (dB)          15.5            31.5
Any advice or suggestions? I've checked for virus etc and i'm clear.
Thanks

Re: very slow upload speeds

Hmm.
That looks broken.  Do they look the same after you reboot your router?

Noise margin (dB) 10.0          13.0
Output power (dBm) 16.4        12.0
Attenuation (dB)         63.5       31.5

Re: very slow upload speeds

Right - Looks like your earlier stats were a reporting error!
You're getting pretty much what I would expect from a synchronisation (signal between router and exchange) perspective.
What results do you get if you go to http://mybroadbandspeed.co.uk ?

Re: very slow upload speeds

Ok - So they're all pretty dreadful.
Is anything running on your computer which could be sending information to the internet?  P2P software, iPlayer, that sort of thing?

Re: very slow upload speeds

Does your router report upload and download traffic and errors

Re: very slow upload speeds

The only thing running besides system stuff is firefox and boinc.  Boinc hasn't attempted to access the internet, and I don't use p2p etc.
Checkng my router I'm the only one connected, and it's not logged any security errors. My firewall setting havn't been changed, infact the only thing to have changed system wise was the windows update I did yesterday.

When did the problem start?

Re: very slow upload speeds

The problem started yesterday (wednesday), I'd just come back from holiday and did my usual routine of updating the security and system, it was slow then but I thought it was due to the connection not being used.
I can't find anything unusual on my pc, I'm very conscious of keeping my computer virus free etc.

Speedtest.net - ping 52ms, download 0.62mbps, upload 0.00mbps

Re: very slow upload speeds

Could you possibly let me know what happens disable your antivirus and firewall software?
It's not uncommon for an update to cause speed problems.

Re: very slow upload speeds

Good idea but nothing happened, still the same.  Something must be blocking the outgoing traffic, if it was a wire problem then it should affect the download too.  I'm stumped Sad

Re: very slow upload speeds

Weird.
I wouldn't expect the Windows Update to affect just you either.  Any chance of doing a system restore back to Tuesday?

Re: very slow upload speeds

I can't do a system restore as I don't have it enabled, also never needed to restore before.
