Re: tweak tester

You're on DSL Max, which is 'up to' 8mb and your line profile is currently set to 1mb. I assume that connection normal is correct but out of context unfortunately find it hard to advise any further.
Hope that helps, if you post the full question asked re connection I should be able to advise further.

Re: tweak tester

The information you need to enter is
DSL
2000
select operating system
Normal
I suggest entering speed as 2000 even if that is higher than your current profile speed (experience!)
When the tweak tester gives you the results you will find a URL is given in small letters near the bottom of the results page.  I recommend you copy that and post it here.  There are additional graphs which can prove informative to someone used to looking at them (I'll leave you to guess who might consider himself a member of that club  8)).
Assuming you are using Windows XP or earlier I suggest downloading DrTCP while you are on the DSLreports site (choose the dot-exe file it is only 52.5kb).

Re: tweak tester

Re: tweak tester

Take your pick, but I suggest using "normal".  It doesn't really matter.

Re: tweak tester

It does matter - for PPPoE the maximum MTU is 1492, for PPPoA it is 1500.

Re: tweak tester

But prior to you mentioning PPPoE only Normal and PPP0A had arisen.  It doesn't matter which of the latter two are chosen.

Re: tweak tester

I wasn't the first to mention PPPoE

Whether that is true or not I don't know but it seems a reasonable assumption - so why risk getting an incorrect report when by picking PPPoA you know it's right?

Re: tweak tester

Hi,
Yes, that information is what I wanted to see.
You settings show RWIN is too small (17520) and your PC probably has its MTU (1500 is default) mismatched with the router (1400).  The expanded information plots show periods with longer "round-trip" times so I'm going to recommend a larger RWIN than PN's standard formula would suggest.
To change these settings please download DrTCP from the DSLreports website.  I suggest you choose the dot-exe file, it is only 52.5kB
Double-click the downloaded file to run it (the application doesn't install on your computer), and
1. enter 108800 in the top box (RWIN),
2. make sure the Network adapter box at the bottom shows your Network card (use the drop-down menu to select if necessary - note this is not "sticky", will need to be selected again if you run DrTCP another time),
3. enter 1400 in the right-hand MTU box.
4. Click Save, then Exit.
Now you must restart your PC to ensure the changed settings take effect.
After your PC restarts hopefully you'll find download speeds improve.  I'd appreciate feedback on the effect and the results from another Tweak test so I can check all looks OK.
I'm suggesting adopting MTU=1400 on your PC, rather than changing the router to 1500 because some users find websites with a lot of graphic content fail to load with the higher value.
Fingers crossed  Smiley

Re: tweak tester

I have my router and PC both set to 1500 and haven't found a single website that fails. The important thing is to make sure MTU path discovery is working which should automatically drop the MTU used as required.

Re: tweak tester

Hi,
Made the adjustments as suggested but there appears to be no improvement.
Have made another speed test as suggested,
http://www.dslreports.com/tweakr/block:2e1fc5b?service=dsl&speed=2000&os=winXP&via=normal
Would welcome further feedback please.

Re: tweak tester

Select DSL, wireless is completely different in that context.
