translation please

Been sent this from    pn
We would like to inform you that your Help Assistant Question [ 41734720 ] has now been returned to the BOT - DSL Logged Faults - Post SFI pool.
It might as well be in Klingon as far as I am concerned.
To add to the problem waited in all day as BT were coming to look for a fault , still waiting. Where do I send my claim for for a waste of my time. Virgin here I come

Re: translation please

What I think that means is that your ticket (question) had been put on hold until the day of the scheduled BT SFI (Special Faults Investigation) engineer visit.
Since the day has arrived the ticket has been released from hold and passed back to Plusnet's Broadband Operations Team - DSL (i.e. broadband) Logged Faults section to pick up the BT engineer's notes and decide what action is appropriate next.
It's possible the engineer started his/her investigation at the exchange or cabinet, fixed a fault there, and decided a premises visit wasn't necessary. However in the latter case they should let you know.
If your ticket is still with Plusnet I suggest leaving it for now to avoid it going to the back of the queue; hopefully Plusnet will respond by the weekend (despite holidays). If it's awaiting a response from you it would be appropriate to pass it back with the comment that no engineer visit took place. (I'm assuming the problem hasn't been fixed.)

Re: translation please

HI joeboy,
According to the latest on your ticket it seems we think the fault is now resolved. Is it ok now?

Re: translation please

Hi Jojo, no I have another ticket in. No engineer called to the house but he may have just gone to the box in the street.

Re: translation please

Hi Joeboy,
Your current sync rate of 712k should give you a profile of 500k. With an attenuation of 76.8dB I'm surprised you're even getting that to be honest. The profile is currently 350k but your connection will need to be constant for at least 72 hours before it will lift to the 500. Below are your latest connection logs.

Re: translation please

Hi Jojo, thanks for the reply and the chart. It means nothing to me, all I know is that my broadband speed is crap always has been since I signed up to PN. I had a far better service in Eastern Europe and not once did I have to contact my ISP. I really regret no going with Virgin as there is a connection to the house.

Re: translation please

If you mean you can get a Virgin cable service then what are you waiting for?  Your telephone connection to your local exchange is so bad (the 'attenuation of 76.8dB') that you will never get a decent speed with any DSL service provider.

Re: translation please

Thanks for that Chris, just as soon as my year is up I am off. Wonder if I could do it now as I have never had a fast broadband with PN. I told them, I can't watch youtube but they sent me a video attachment for using the test socket. I gave up after 15 mins, good job I knew what to do anyway.

Re: translation please

This is obviously little use to you now but you must've been nuts going for ADSL over cable given how far you were from the exchange. Of course, such a detail may not have been apparent to you when you signed up but was there no indication of expected line speed when the service was offered to you? I don't mean the 'upto 8Meg' headline but the an actual estimate based on line length... I was certainly given that, ~3.5Mbps, and am pleased to say it was quite conservative as I actually get 5.5!

Re: translation please

Are you tied to a year because of getting a free router, etc?  Actual service contracts with Plusnet are only for the current month (ten days notice, I think).  You may consider it worth your while to pay for the router, etc, and have done with it?  However, you should also check the cost of cancelling the DSL service, since you would not simply be moving to another DSL provider.
I'm a happy Plusnet customer, and it feels odd to be advising someone to move, but you are in a different position from me....
Hope this helps.

Re: translation please

When I moved back to the UK I heard good things about PN as I did not want to pay for a TV service I thought I would give them a try. It says on the BT site I should get minimum of 1 mb. There was a problem setting up the phone line as it had not been used for some years (hence the Virgin box in the house). Now I have my money sorted out I am able to pay a bit more so will go with Virgin. The one thing that does get me is the pages on this forum about slow speed, never seen that when I lived overseas, UK imho is behind as far as broadband internet speeds are concerned.
