tplink range extender TL-WA85ORE crashes Thompson router

I have an oldish plusnet supplied Thompson router.
I just bought a range extender tp-link TL-WA85ORE
I can configure it fine using ethernet cable and thru the menu options at http://tplinkextender.net
All goes well.
As soon as I choose connect, the wireless and ethernet lights go out. Then after about 30 seconds all lights go out and the router reboots.
As son as I try the exteneder to connect again, bang the same thing happens.
Does anyone know if the Thompson router does not work with this extender, or can I configure a router option to make it work?

Re: tplink range extender TL-WA85ORE crashes Thompson router

Your link doesn't work
When I've seen routers behave like this, it is normally because the data has got stuck in a loop i.e. the router sends to the wireless device which sends it back to the router which sends it back to the device etc etc.
Not familiar with that type of extender but I had it when I configured a repeater once which really freaked out the router. I've also seen routers freaked out by trying to use multicast traffic over the wireless.
