Re: ticket No 84617849

I'm just waiting to hear back from one of my contacts within BT to try and push this along.

Re: ticket No 84617849

We're going to be looking at a further visit I think. Before booking, I'm just going to get an action plan from our suppliers first.
In the meantime, can I take your availability in case we do need a further visit?

Hiu Chrs,
Wed, Thur, Fri AM is good.
Please avoid PM, I'll be in trouble if a BT technician disturbs my wife's Wimbledon viewing.  Wink

Thanks Smiley
I've booked in Wednesday AM slot. I'm still awaiting an action plan but I'll get that sorted before the engineer visit.

BT > Action plan??  Roll_eyes
Hope that consists of lifting all the man hole covers on the route and re-crimping the joints.
I guess, replacing the aluminium cable is too much to expect. Wink
Thanks Chris, I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: ticket No 84617849

No worries at all.
They've identified noise on the line which is affecting the upstream which is what their primary concern is. There are quite a few e-mails flying around at the moment to ensure that the engineer that visits has an idea of what to look at.

That's encouraging.  Cheesy

Well fingers crossed that an engineer can find the source! I think we're all set and notes updated - keep me informed Smiley

Re: ticket No 84617849

Hi Chris,
The BT guy arrived, contrary to what you said previously he had been given very little information about the problem. He had not been told about noise on the line.
IIRC all his note said was something like "the line is only 1.7km long and the upstream should be" --that's it not even a complete sentence.
Any way he replaced my D-side pair and the sync speed is now 25.7 mbps down and 1.77 mbps up,
so there's a significant improvement in upstream.
Note: the previous D-side pair showed no fault on BT's test meter so this doesn't say much for their test.
Quote
                Downstream    Upstream
Attenuation (dB):          28.7        0.0
Connection speed (kbps):    25742        1772
SNR margin (dB):            6.3        6.2
Power (dBm):                11.2        7.2
Interleave depth:          1        1
INP:                        0        0

The BT guy tested the sync at the cabinet and got 80/20. I told him I'm only on a 40/10 product and he though this may be part of the problem, ie "Plusnet trying to push too much down the line".
He said I need to talk to Plusnet about this. ?Huh
Also I notice I'm now on fastpath, is it worth turning on interleaving to help protect my IP profile.
For interest, my bitloading graphs before and after this visit:

Re: ticket No 84617849

Thanks for the information.
I'm happy to move you onto 40/10 to see if this is of any benefit, I can see why that's been mentioned, but can't imagine it'll have a huge effect.
Secondly, I can't apply Interleaving, it's not an option I'm given, however, I could put you on Super Stable which will be quicker to take action on your line. I'm happy for you to decide which way and what changes you'd like me to make as I'm happy to do both at the same time.

Re: ticket No 84617849

Hi Chris,
Yes please move me to 40/10, don't know why it's on 80/20.
What about the new 40/20 product, would that help?
Don't know about the "super stable setting". I don't have any problem with dropped connections so it may be best to leave that for the time being.

Re: ticket No 84617849

I'll do 40/10 for you, I'd advise Super Stable to help protect and potentially improve upload performance on 40/10, but as I say, totally your call, it can be easily removed.

Re: ticket No 84617849

That's not a separate product listed by our suppliers. 40/20 is something managed by us but isn't applicable as it's only on the new Unlimited Products.
I'll make the changes now and we'll see how we get on.
