What do I need to do on my router, if anything, to get the think broadband system to monitor my IP? At present it seems to think the connection isn't responding. Tried a trace route to my IP and that doesn't get there either. Something I am missing?

Enable "Respond To Ping On Internet WAN Port" (or similarly worded) tick box in your WAN setup.
