ssh Port 22 has been blocked by Plusnet

Plusnet seem to have blocked ssh port 22 access from the Internet to my Plusnet router and thence to computers on my network. I have tried using ssh on port 2222, but this is also blocked.

They refused to give me any support and wrote me a 'deadlock' letter.

Does anybody have a work-around, please? Or, is it back to BT when my contract expires?

Many routers block access to the ssh port and many more as it opens up a security risk

Here an example on my router using https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ scanning common port

If it's just one device you want to connect to then a port forward rule be that all needed, but if it's multiple devices I suggest looking at installing a VPN Server on your network, with a simple port forward rule you be on your home network.

EDIT: are you using your own router and if so what is it?

I have just reminded myself there is a place to check, there is a legacy account based Firewall which might be on your account.

Login into your members centre account, from the Home page navigate

-> Home --> Broadband ---> Broadband Firewall bottom right (you need to scroll down the page)

I would set to Low or Off if enabled..

Mine is set to "Off", and always has been.

The problem was caused by something that Plusnet have done.

I complained. They refused to discuss, but this afternoon ... the problem has been fixed!
