Re: speed?whats going on NOW with plusnet

What speed are you synchronised at Mcgoo?
Can you post up the results (Especially your IP profile) from a BT speed check?

Dear Mr
As Max DSL is a rate adaptive service, it is quite normal for your speeds to fluctuate from time to time. More information regarding the Max DSL Service can be found by using the following link:

Re: speed?whats going on NOW with plusnet

The BT Speedtester results you posted show your throughput to their servers varied between 4538 and 4569kbps  Do you still get only 2000kbps from the speedtester you are using?
If that is the case is the value on the High-Speed Broadband page on the portal 2000kbps?  Unless you've since had syncs below the 6304kbps shown by the BT tests the High-Speed Broadband page should show 5500kbps, the IP Profile shown in the same tests.
The reply to your ticket seems factual and to the point to me.  Unfortunately this sort of problem does occur from time to time for no apparent reason, then disappears as mysteriously as it appeared.  Jameseh answered your original question of why your speed dropped to 2000kbps in Reply #1 on this thread.  Why your sync rate dropped could well be just that "it happens".  Did it rain?  Was it windy at that time?  Have BT Openreach been tinkering with the lines or green cabinets in your area?

Re: speed?whats going on NOW with plusnet

The throughput speeds measured on the BT tester varying between 4538 and 4568kbps seem considerably larger than 2000kbps to me.  So the mystery seems to be where do you get 2000kbps from?
I asked in my previous post if the value shown on the High-Speed Broadband page on the portal was 2000kbps (it should be 5500kbps) but, as is your right, you chose not to answer that.  Unfortunately since I am not a PlusNet staff member I don't have access to your settings.

Re: speed?whats going on NOW with plusnet

speed from your link:
My Account
Your High-speed Broadband Service
Your current broadband speed is 5500 Kbps
What does this speed mean?
The speed shown above is based on your sync speed. This is always a little higher than the speed at which data will actually be downloaded over your broadband connection. Find out more about sync speed.
.
and speed from here two min later:
.

Undecided Undecided
As i said previously i was getting 5.9 on speedtest for 8months and now it is 2.2 not 5.5 as pn portal says?

Re: speed?whats going on NOW with plusnet

Hi McGoo,
Really sorry to hear that you're still having problems.  I've been having a dig into this and so far:
- I've checked your ellacoya profile which is correct for your account
- I've checked your BT profile which is currently 5500Kbps
- I've checked your profile at our end, which is currently 5500Kbps
So everything from this perspective looks absolutely fine.  Can I ask if you have tried rebooting your router at all?  Also, have you tried tweaking your MTU and rWin settings?  The symptoms that you are suffering whereby your speeds are considerably faster on the BT Speedtest than other HTTP speedtesters is often a symptom of incorrect rWin values.  If you've tried doing this already then I apologise.
Let us know how you get on.
