speed drop/noise margin rise again

Got my 6 monthly problem again was getting around 2mb with about mid 20ms on ping and a noise margin of around 7.8 to 8.0.
Now my download is dropping ,noise margin is around 9.0 and ping all over the shop.
I won't use the fault finder as it messes with interleaving being off.
Internet is mainly used for gaming so i instantly see problems with it and is has been dropping out on my pc.I've done some speed test and some of them with rise to 1.5mb then drop to 0.5mb and it will struggle to get back up .
Having to constantly reboot my router to get a better speed and it has been changed so i know it isn't that i lefted it on for awhile too for it to only get worse.
Router is in the master socket in the test socket constantly pc/consoles are hard wired.
Any ideas or help please and yes i live along way from my exchange.

Re:  "... constantly reboot my router to get a better speed ..."
My experience is exactly the opposite. After reading
http://community.plus.net/blog/2007/07/02/broadband-speed-faults-how-to-diagnose/
I understand why. It's worth bothering. Honest!

Re: speed drop/noise margin rise again

Yeah have done for awhile it stayed at 2mb then just turned to [Censored] so rebooted a few time lefted it a few days and it still didn't pick up.
just seems as if every 4-6 months i have to complain then it's sorted again for a few months.

HI monkey001
I've just lifted our profile a bit and this will give your connection a kick, I'd be interesteed to see what you get in the next 10-15 mins.

Thank you jojo.

Re: speed drop/noise margin rise again

Hi monkey001,
I don't see any obvious issues with your line, account or exchange at the moment. As you're on 20CN the upload is capped at 448k.

Re: speed drop/noise margin rise again

Yeah download seems to have stabilized again but at a lower speed it still won't move up to the 1.8-2mb i was getting 2 months ago.
Out of interest as i've just seen the uncapping of upload speed is there a way of seeing what your upload speed would be if it was uncapped as i have a interest in this?or does it have 1 months trial?
Thanks Jojo

Re: speed drop/noise margin rise again

Hi monkey001,
uncapping the upstream on your line would probably compromise the downstream which in your case isn't that high. With attenuation of 60 and noise margin of 10dB your 2208 sync is probably about right.

Re: speed drop/noise margin rise again

When i do a speedtest it bounces from 1.3mb to under 0.3mb there is no stability on the line which isn't good as I'm paying for it on the PRO package.
one minute pages load fine next they freeze and i have to refresh, online gaming is impossible.
will try and turn the router off in the morning see if can give me a better sync speed and my noise margin is normally around 8dB can't understand why it's got worse again.
Would interleaving being turned back on improve my connection.

Re: speed drop/noise margin rise again

HI monkey001,
interleaving may settle it down but can cause higher pings, which as a gamer may affect you. If you are having issues you should definitely go to http://faults.plus.net and raise a fault there.
