slowing down and down

grrrrr, over the past two weeks my speed has dropped, when it got to where it was below half my normal line speed i thought time to report it, now its less than 1/8th ,, and seems to be slowing still,, really a 56k modem could do as good now  (last speed test was 59k) .. from a normal 7.5meg  on a 8meg line.

Re: slowing down and down

So what does your router say and have you tried the BT test http://217.35.209.142/
If that doesn't work what does this say https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: slowing down and down

I to am having the same issues. I thought Plusnets addition of the extra segment would solve the matter but it appears not. Speedtests and browsing laggy. 5meg profile, lucky to get 2meg throughput. Odd thing is gateways appear clear of gold drops. Router is very stable, and not dropped sync for 10 days, I am nowhere near my download limit, profile set to 5000. Will be raising a speed issue, but unsure as to where that will get me, as BT speedtester refuses to work for me. Not sure what to do Cry Cry

Re: slowing down and down

Penfold can you try the link that Oldjim gave http://217.35.209.142/ and if it doesnt work, tell us how far it got, what operating system you have.  Because I get it working no problem with M$S XP SP3 anf firefox, also with Linux and Firefox. and Opera.

Re: slowing down and down

Hi pierre.
Runs all the way through, and gets to 96%, and stops. Tried with Firefox, and IE as well.  Running XP SP3.

Re: slowing down and down

1) is your Java up to date?  if you right click on the 96% bit and get a java report, that tell you what the error is.
2) have you tried it with the 217. 35 code as apparently it stopped working with www.speedtester.bt ; but does work with http://speedtester.bt
I know its a pain, mine did stop working for a week recently for the above reasons.

Re: slowing down and down

I'm getting similar issues. very slow speeds across several different machines, WinXp & Linux, from a previously stable connection. Started a few weeks ago after they did some maint to improve performance ha ha.
I raised a query and got the usual circular responses. They even suggested it might be in my wireless setup - problem is I don't have a wireless setup! I've given up on support and my hope is that the complaints will eventually prompt them to fix it. Web browsing is unusable at times, with responses measured in mins. This morning 26/10/2008 @ 07:00-07:45 has been very slow at times. Clicked refresh, went off and made some coffee and site still hadn't responded, tried others UK, Europe and US and all the same.
These are my speedtest results:

Re: slowing down and down

My system is absolutely fine in the morning, and early afternoons. Its the evenings it slows to a crawl.  If I get chance I will take a video of a speedtester test toshow how laggy it is, and post it on my webspace. It getting beyond a joke really.....  everything was fine up until it seems the failed router upgrade, since then my connection in the evenings apart from an odd couple of times, has been P*** poor.  Tried from around 18:00 to 22:00 always the same. Will see whats its like tonight.

Re: slowing down and down

I suspect its a thread about the general state of the network at peak times!!!!, and the unusual amount of posts about speed slowdowns.  I would appreciate some kind of response from PlusNet regards the issues which appear to be plaguing some of us, but not others. Undecided

Re: slowing down and down

Orbrey gave a reply to a thread that I stared a couple of weeks ago here, see reply no 30  http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,69514.16.html
Fwiw my speeds have been very consistently back to their best for about a week; sort of assumed everyone else's had done the same
