Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

Today it reads
Virtual paths: Green

There are currently no known capacity problems on your exchange. There may still be an exchange problem, however BT are not currently reporting that they are aware of it. Please contact Support if you are having speed problems, who can advise further.

Bt speed test also shows ...
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6.72 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 8.98 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.38Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps

Estimated line speed:8Mb (This may vary between 5.5Mb and 12.5Mb) - Checked on 2012-09-19 01:42:46Current line speed: 7.6 Mb ( plusnet account )
As it stands my connections shows as faster and better ping but even now when i load pages they are slow to load, the worst to load is bbc.co.uk news site which is my homepage.
Another thing i dont understand is all these stats/reading show me having different IP profiles daily, is that normal ?

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

If you resync it's likely to be at a slightly different speed, and since the IP Profile is 88.2% of your sync speed, that will change as well.

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

To answer the first point, yes it seems normal in many respects, but as I commented earlier just want to watch those errors. One other observation, at your last stats post, your Plusnet Current Line speed had not updated to reflect you current BT IP profile which at the time you've had for some 40 hrs (you didn't include the System running time so can't be exact). This is an issue with some exchanges and PN have to update it manually.
To the second point, Download speed is affected by a number of things which can be broadly divided up simplistically as follows -
1) Your connection speed to the exchange 2) Exchange congestion 3) ISP Network & congestion 4) Traffic management 5) www hops from ISP to 6) Site/server being visited
1) Because of some previous event/line quality, your current Target noise margin seems to be 9dB. If the line is stable then this will drop with a further improvement in speed.
2) Just sorted, so hopefully you will see better speed and ping more of the time
3) No known problems likely to affect you
4) Download sites, FTP, Usenet and suchlike have speed restrictions at certain times dependant on your package. Normal web browsing is not restricted.
5) Depends on routing, over which there is little/no control
6) Totally down to the site you visit.
The BBC news site is not especially fast. All speeds can be slow at any instant dependant on congestion at that instant anywhere between you and the site in question. Servers on some sites have low speed/capability.
jelv's point wasn't a suggestion to resync (please don't - we need to see stability) it was a statement about how it works,
HTH.

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

Eh! Right several things. First, I'll post this bit, so you can be getting current stats to post, and also run a new BT speedtest,
This last BT speedtest suggests you've had a resync and the speed is now around 10986.

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

Second, listen to your phone line for noise.
Third, Adam Walker should have updated your current line speed to 8.97 to match the profile that should have been there earlier, and he hasn't, so the speed should have been a bit better.
4th. The speedtest.net server could be congested. After you've done the stats and BT speedtest and posted them, try another speedtest.net, if bad try another server eg. Milton Keynes.
5th, That poor BT speedtest should have given you the option to conduct further tests, we may consider that.
It's possible there may still be congestion at the exchange despite the updated VP status, we may have to test more.

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

Always use the same destination node for speedtest.net speed tests.
Try to avoid peak periods, such as when the kids have been fed and they are doing their "homework".

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

I understand this but all these connections issues started 3 weeks ago and have got worse n worse each day. As you can see im trying all kinds of tests here and im getting no where really.
Maybe i need to try a new router?
I currently have a ticket in with support and im told they cant find any issues, but my recordings and the graph posted my adam in these forums clearly show problems.
I feel i need more answers as im at a loss here!

Re: slower speeds and higher pings "help needed"

You've got most of the answers, yes the modem/router could be a problem but how old is it? These issues are only cropping up in the evening aren't they? Did you listen to your phone line? Is anyone else connected and using your connection at the same time?
I'll post back in a moment with some different tests. But try the speedtest.net ones again and also the BT beta one (don't take too much notice of it's ping if slow).
