My stats are:

    ADSL Link 	     Downstream 	     Upstream
Connection Speed      2272 kbps      448 kbps
Line Attenuation      62.0 db      31.5 db
Noise Margin      3.7 db      19.0 db

My line is 5.6 km from the excahnge
I use a very short 10cm high quality phone cable, no extensions in the house, router allways in the test socket and an ADSL Nation Pro microfilter.
Currently on a Netgear DG834G V4 with DGTeam firmware + SNR tweak
My house is only yards from the cabinet so that helps
IP Profile now at 2000
With the thompson router and none of the advove additions I was syncing at 448up/984down and on an IP Profile of 750
My line is pushed to the limit and stability so far is ok I can do other things to get it syncing around 2850 but its unstable.

think i am going to tinker with my network when bt is done with there test as i have 1m cable from test socket to router using bts adsl filter as i loose 0.3mb if i use thompson supplied one,  plus high quality short cable may get me a little extra, whats an snr tweak?

Re: routers? which is best?

For my line and its connection to the exchange I find the Netgear DG834GT router which is wired to the PC to be the best I've tried so far, mainly due to the DGTeam firmware and some SNR tweaks.
Channel: INTR, Upstream rate = 448 Kbps, Downstream rate = 4032 Kbps
Link Power State: L0
Mode: G.DMT
Channel: Interleave
Trellis: ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime

		Down Up
SNR (dB): 6.8 17.0
Attn(dB): 61.0 29.5
Pwr(dBm): 19.4 11.9
Max(Kbps): 4384 912
Rate (Kbps): 4032 448

Re: routers? which is best?

That's positively miraculous!  Your attenuation is more than mine, yet you get twice the speed I do.

Re: routers? which is best?

Depending on the router and the particular firmware in use the attenuation for the line has been reported as low as 56dB and as high as 62dB, the DSLAM chipset at the exchange is Texas Instruments (TSTC) but I find the Broadcom chipped DG834GT performs better than the TI AR7 chipped DG834G v3.

Re: routers? which is best?

I suspect your attenuation is actually at the lowest end on the range. I have never noticed any change reported to my attenuation (58dB) and I have never got near 4Mbps, no matter what chipset the router has.  The best I get nowadays is 2.8M and I am currently syncing at only 2.2M.
And I've no idea how you know what chipset the DSLAM has!

Re: routers? which is best?

[color=navy]I would agree that the downstream attenuation is most likely to be in the mid fifties.
As for the chipset in the DSLAM that comes from a telnet [color=red]command
suitable for the Netgear DG834GT once the busybox is opened.

Re: routers? which is best?

I have been given a Draytel 2710n they retail about £60-£70 come with 2 years warranty
You dont need to be a geek to setup the Draytel 2710.
The wireless range a round the house is great I get 5 bar's in my kitchen which my Speedtouch had no bars plus the 2710 has n which is great for my laptop.  It not dropped a connection in 333:50:54
Theirs a usb socket to setup a hard drive or/and a usb printer which makes them act as they are on a network
its not cheap buying draytel products

think you should work for bt as thing aint got a clue and i have same attenuation as you and i only sync at 3000mb and get 2.6mb at best
