router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

Openretch engineer changed the cabinet line to the exchange after he found a fault on my old one.  So now my router will only connect as ADSL2, so are there any causes for a router to not connect as ADSL2+?
I had interleaving removed last week and connection was stable until the phone line fault, but since last Friday till last night the system re-added interleaving and increased the SNR to 15 from 6.
I had hoped as I am on 21CN, waiting 3 hours would be enough to start the trickle back to what my connection was like pre phone fault for the first reboot, but I have rebooted 2 times since leaving at least an hour between them to get an increase and no change.  Normally I would always connect on ADSL2+ but can't since the phone fault so horrible feeling of banded

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

What are your speeds like at the moment? I ask as you do seem to be on ADSL2+ at present and the line rate seems to be close to what you had with us previously.
Glad to see that the phone fault has been fixed all the same.

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

Currently
ADSL2
SNR 15
3000 kbps up / 444 kbps down
with a IP Profile 2.65 Mbps
before Friday it was
ADSL2+
SNR 6
4800-5000/440k
5.1k IP profile
Upload isn't uncapped which I don't need or want with the length of my line.

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

I think that is a direct effect of the 15dB noise margin.
The quick fix is a line reset

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

My connection is back to stable at 6 SNR but still fails to connect as ADSL2+ only ADSL2.  For my phone line fault, what BT did was change the line from the cabinet to the exchange.  So trying to find out why router is failing to connect using ADSL2+
router modulation is set to ADSL2+
router is connected to master socket
SNR 6.2
connection speed 4888/444
PN profile 4mbit
BT Profile - tester broken atm

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

It is the automatic system as your line will see no benefit from ADSL2+ as the higher frequencies it uses are useless on your line length

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

That extra 1mbit it gives helps with HD streams, I don't watch them often due to them eating my monthly bandwidth but with a 3.5-4mbit connection they stutter with caching currently, so trying to figure out why my router can't connect under ADSL2+ anymore.

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

I've just performed some more line diagnostics and the SNR margin has gone down from the previous 15db to 4.8 now so the BT profile has lifted slightly, so I've lifter ours to 4400kbps to match.
The loop loss looks quite high for the speeds you're receiving at the moment and that may be what's pushed the connection over to ADSL2, as that the main factors in this are the router and the exchange do you have another router you could try? I'd just be interested to see if the stats look any different were I to run another test.

no spare router to test with, note that test you did made my connection drop the PPP, did a reboot as I saw it as it happened

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

To explain what I mean
This is the screen grab for DMT on my connection
Note that  frequencies above about 850kHz are not being used because of the attenuation effect in the higher frequency band
The difference between ADSL2 and ADSL2+ is that ADSL2 maximum frequency is 1.1MHz and the ADSL2+ maximum frequency is 2.2MHz
Does your router report your attenuation

Attenuation  is between 47-48

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

So you should perhaps be getting slightly better speeds BUT it can be router dependent
When I changed my Netgear DG834G v4 (Broadcom chipset) for a DG834Gv5 ( Conexant chipset) I lost about 500kbps speed so it went back to Amazon
Note that my present speeds are with a 5dB default noise margin (I tweaked it down from 6dB)
Noise Margin:     4.8   dB
Connection Rate:  4928  Kbps
Line Attenuation: 51.0  dB
One other thing - you will see that my upload speed is 448kbps and this is because I am on ADSL1 on 21CN as on ADSL2 uncapped upstream I lost 200 - 300 kbps downstream speed and the line became unstable so I switched back

Re: router failing to connect as ADSL2+ since a phone fault

My upload is still capped, never requested it uncapped for the possible loss of download speed.
