i want to access and reconfigure my Thompson 585v8 router from work
i have enabled remote assistant (permanent mode)
and it gave me a URL, a log in name and a password;
https://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:50827
but i cant get it to work from home.
maybe it wont work from the safe side of the router
or is there something else wrong?
thanks

I cannot work out from your question whether you actually need remote access to your router or whether you are trying that because you cannot manage to access it locally.

Hi there,
Most routers won't let you access your own external IP from the connection that's been issued it. If you open a command prompt (assuming you're using windows) by clicking start and then run and typing 'cmd' and hitting go, then run 'ipconfig' you should be able to view the router's page by browsing to the IP shown under the 'default gateway' entry.
Hope that helps,

thanks for the responses
i have it sorted now.
I had no problem accessing the router from firefox at home
all i wanted to do was gain access to my router config page over the internet from work so i could sort out some port forwarding issue in order to access my nas drive remotely.
i tried to test it from home by using http://anonymouse.org
i was hoping to go out though this service and back in again to test it was working before i went to work
but http://anonymouse.org didnt help at all it kept timing out
a colleague at work is knowledgeable in this area so being able to access it from work would allow him to fix my issues.
but it is sorted now and i can access my nas and my router config pages
thanks again
