"Free" Speed Upgrade

Hi all,
WAY back in June 2006 I received an email from Metronet promising me a "free" speed upgrade on my account., I have heard nothing more since, and despite asking numerous times, never seem to get an answer on when this will ever happen, if at all.
The email claimed "in a few months" - yet I'd class over a year as more than a few months!
Did anyone else receive this email, or the promised speed upgrade?

Re: "Free" Speed Upgrade

The up to 8Mb upgrades actually became an opt-in upgrade, I'll go have a look at your account and place the order manually if required.

Re: "Free" Speed Upgrade

I've been and placed the order manually to complete tomorrow, you will probably see large fluctuations in speed for around 10 days before it starts to settle down.

Re: "Free" Speed Upgrade

Thanks Chris,
The reason I haven't done anything about this is because the email stated:
"What happens next?
------------------
Nothing. We'll automatically upgrade your speed, which should take place
within the coming months. Once done, we'll email you to confirm the good
news. No other changes to your Metronet broadband product will occur."
Didn't realise it was an "opt-in" service, and as I've emailed and called and never been told as such, I've never done anything about it.
So thanks for clearing it up - it will be "free", correct?

Re: "Free" Speed Upgrade

Hi Steve,
There's no additional charges associated with the "upto 8Mbps" service.

Re: "Free" Speed Upgrade

Hi Steve,
The email snippet you have quoted was the original way it was intended to go ahead, unfortunately there were numerous issues at the time last year so we went for opt-in instead. This should have been communicated at the time, I can't remember exactly how we did this though.
The upgrade will be free.

For Plusnet users it was in the issue 5 of the Plusnet newsletter.

Well, I'm a Metronet customer and I haven't seen any issues of this newsletter you speak of.

Hi Steve,
Unfortunately you would not have received anything to this affect.

Okay, well, that explains it then!
