"Access Key" Printed on Thomson Gateway Router

Hi,
I've just had my BB activated today and everything went like a dream. I just have one question.
I noticed an 8-digit code on the router called an Access Key. It is NOT the WPA Security Key and it is NOT the Password to logon to the Router.
Maybe a clue is that my laptop seemed at ask for this code when I first tried to connect on wireless. However, it gave me another option to use the WPA Security key instead, so I used that...

Any ideas what this is?

Is it all numbers? Maybe it's the WPS pin, but it would be more secure to disable WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) entirely.

Mine's not all numbers but I thought it was probably the WPS pin

Thanks for the replies!
It is 8-digits - upper case letters and numbers.
Maybe you are both right...

Yes that'll be the WPS pin number.
I'd use WPA instead though.
