plusnet adsl 240kbs speed

Hello guys
I am new to this ADSL stuff, before i had virgin but now i moved in a non virgin area.
PlusNet was my best choice. I chose the non contract broadband just in case virgin is coming.
Speed wise they say up to 17mb but i have 240kbs only. Shocking.
I tried to speak to customer service and they said its an old line and that was it.

Hi....welcome to the forums
The BT checker reads (for ADSL) 1 to 3 Mbps , where do you get the 17 Mbps from???
Your best bet would be to upgrade to FTTC

It looks like your line is currently in sync at 2.6Mbps, which is within the estimates for your line (1Mbps-3.5Mbps)
Unfortunately it may just be down the to capabilities of your line
Having said this, I would certainly expect you to be getting higher throughput speeds than 240kbs.
As ian007jen says, FTTC may be your best bet for a significant speed boost, considering the low estimates for ADSL.

Also customer support said there is no Fiber in my area so i need to stick to my adsl line. And is not even ADSL2
and yes it is currently 240kb/s

Checking http://dslchecker.bt.com shows that FTTC is available.
It's possible there was just a lack of capacity when you called and asked in February

i can upgrade to FTTC then. i pay already £12 for this speed, might add some pound for proper speed.
but i want to keep my no contract option.
