phone line/broadband installation

Hi, I'm asking this just out of curiosity.
I have an appointment for an engineer to install a new phoneline but i already have an old BT landline that we haven't used for atleast 10 years after being on cable so long, do they still need to install a new phone line? and as my computer is upstairs without wifi will they install the line upstairs for me or does it have to be installed downstairs?
I clearly don't know how phonelines work lol  Cheesy
Thanks,
Matt

Re: phone line/broadband installation

Hi mattskills,
Welcome to the forum. After that length of time not only will it probably not be connected at the exchange but the engineer will need to check the line at both ends. As for whether he would install it upstairs, unless it was a big job, he may well do that for you.
