peer to peer scheduler

Hi
I want to use peer to peer software responsibly so I was wondering if someone can tell me what times to set the download scheduler to in order to avoid peak time usage.
Thanks

Re: peer to peer scheduler

Hi there,
Assuming you're on a Broadband Your Way product you would be best scheduling for 00:15 to 07:45, as this is the optimum use of the free download period.
If you're on a legacy product (Plus, Premier, etc) then the best time would be 00:15 to 15:45 due to the longer off peak hours.

Re: peer to peer scheduler

I've noticed a strange effect with P2P (BitTorrent) after midnight but just for about 5 minutes:-
Download speed increases by a factor of 5 or 6.
Upload speed decreases by a factor of 2.
It's almost as if I'm running on an uncontended line for a few minutes.

What I would suspect happens is that everyone kicks off their BT downloads at midnight.
This means there is a sudden influx of people available to seed, so your download increases, and upload decreases (as there are more sources available)
This stabilises after a few mins though.

Re: peer to peer scheduler

What software are you guys using to schedule p2p?
I would like to do this, but thus far can see no apps to do it with.

Re: peer to peer scheduler

uTorrent supports scheduling in the core program
There is a plugin for Azureus that also supports scheduling.

Re: peer to peer scheduler

I believe the plugin he was referring to is the SpeedSchedular plugin. This plugin allows you to schedule what speeds are to be used between what times.

Re: peer to peer scheduler

Hi Mike, although I was familiar with the time schedular in utorrent I cannot for the life of me find it in azureus.I succesfully D/loaded a P2P early this morning and now want to set the upload for after midnight,I'm wondering if it could be a d/load error or more likely I car'nt see the wood for the trees.
