Re: ongoing connection issues

That doesnt give us a lot of information to work with.
Up time around 10 hours so what happened at around 3 am?
Your speed doent look too bad is it near to what your estimate was and to what BTW test estimates it should be.
Are your connection issues connection to the internet  connection to adsl or wifi connection.
Is your main PC connected by ethernet cable to the router.
Have you had any engineers out - what did they say?
Did you pick channel 5 for the wifi  and how many "machines" are trying to connect at once?

Re: ongoing connection issues

3 AM    the router wouldn't respond
connection to adsl   is often less then  3 mbps
pc is connected by ethernet cable to the router.
yes bt open reach were out   due to no tone on phone and no broadband   they replaced about 2meters of bt cable  outside the house  and used 3M Scotchlok  joint enclosure.  to fix it at 2 points
picked channel 5 due to the others being crowded
there are 3 wifi items on the network       1 android phone   1 printer   1 laptop

Re: ongoing connection issues

Which exchange are you on - any works scheduled    = http://portal.plus.net/supportpages.html?a=2&support_action=maintenance&ispservice_id=adsldial
So no complete drop outs or lights off on the router?
Router connected to the master socket?  do you have any extensions and if so are they hard wired of a DIY flex.
When the speed drops to 3 is it around the same time each day or totally random.
Have you done any of the testing in the two sticky threads at the top of this forum  - speed  and faults

Re: ongoing connection issues

That is a very high oing rate - is it always high.
If the printer is always on is it any better with it off?

Re: ongoing connection issues

Hi,
Can you try stopping anything that's uploading and retest the speeds. We're regularly seeing over 250-300Mb an hour uploaded, which on a 1Mb/s ADSL upload is saturating the connection for long periods. This is going to cause problems on the download.

Re: ongoing connection issues

if my broadband upload is over  300mbs a hour that would be  300mb  per 40 minutes on a 1mb/s           and speed testers use data to test   so     when is this going to be fixed at lowest speed should be 4mb/s      or do i need to wait 28 days to   walk out of contact due to non fix of fault

Re: ongoing connection issues

If you are maxing the upload of your connection when trying to use the download, this will be slower than it should because the 'ack' packets will not be able to be received/sent due to the large amounts of upload data you're doing. Try stopping any uploads and perform some speed tests.

@danielmclean
I'm wondering whether you fully realised what Chris Parr was saying in reply #7. If you aren't deliberately uploading data, especially at the rate Chris mentioned, then you may have some malware on your computer.

Re: ongoing connection issues

The 2704N router seems to be particularly bad at keeping the connection usable while uploading at full speed, there have been a few previous threads with the same problem. The problem is called "bufferbloat".

Re: ongoing connection issues

As suggested can you stop the game/s running and anything like torrents with leechers  then do some speed tests  so we can see what the line is capable of.
