i think this case is one of those strange dsl cases that come up every now and then.
or windows has gone ultra wonky - this is the most likely scenario

well the speedtest says it is busy at present.
but downloads are looking better - getting upto 400Kb/s download speeds now.
last night it was awful.
maybe because i updated mobo drivers this morning. (brand new mobo, with brand new nic, fitted that yesterday).
will try and get some proper speed testing done.
will update asap

DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1130 kbps
it is as though something is sucking 80% of my bandwidth somewhere.
has anyone got any further ideas?

I have turned off the zyxel router firewall
I have turned off windows defender
I have turned off windows firewall
and still slow connections.
downloading a 100Mb test file from an ftp server I was getting 25Kb/s.
downloaded ea stores download manager at 75Kb/s
where is the bandwidth?
I need some serious help

You would only need to leave your router turned on. We just need to be able to see your connection being online so that we can run various tests.

I think you need to make sure your router is configured to accept ping from the net for this purpose.
