networx v plusnet usage discrepancy ?

Sorry I could not display the data more neatly, networx data at top, plusnet underneath.
Usage last month was far higher than ever before, I am on premier option 1, this is todays usage until about 20:00

Re: networx v plusnet usage discrepancy ?

I am having difficulty following the figures.
As you are on Premier the peak time is 16:00 to midnight.
If I am reading them correctly the total during that time is 26.57MB today
Are the Plusnet figures just for today
One thing it does tell me is that you may have a P2P application running consuming about 2MB per hour

Re: networx v plusnet usage discrepancy ?

Hi Old Jim, here is a sample of extreme usage between 12:00 - 13:00  by Networx  14/08/2010  12:00 - 12:59  224 KB/s  1.94 KB/s  789 MB  6.84 MB  796 MB
So 796 MB  in a 1 hour period. Plusnet  usage shows as my initial post aprox 287 mb up until 21:30. I would  just like to know if networx is reliable or is plusnet usage reliable, I am not concerned by todays stats as they are in my favour, but am concerned at the usage of nearly 20gb peak time in my last billing month, have never ever got this close, got first warning email aprox 10 days after last billing period started.
Regards, Alan

Re: networx v plusnet usage discrepancy ?

If this report is correct
14/08/2010  12:00 - 12:59  224 KB/s  1.94 KB/s  789 MB  6.84 MB  796 MB
You were downloading at an average rate of about 1800kbps over that whole hour - are you aware of doing anything which could cause that.
Are you networked to any other computers/PS3/X box etc.

Re: networx v plusnet usage discrepancy ?

Spotify is P2P so even if she isn't actively downloading something it could be using bandwidth

It is a very bandwidth hungry application in it's default setting, even when not actually listening to music. It stores all your listened to music and sends it out to others all the time when the application is running. The above link gives a few pointers on how to reduce it's bandwidth use and the best solution when not being used is to stop running the application or better still shut down the PC/Laptop it is running on!
Regarding your question on the different traffic figures between PN and Networkx, the PN figures are not updated in real time and data for say 10am -> 11am may not be added until 2 hours (or longr) after the period. It is very difficult to compare a small time frame due to the varied update periods on the PN figures. You can only really compare the full days data and you have to wait until you see totals for today before yu know the totals for the previous day are complete.
In addition, Networkx is recording all local network data which the PN figures will not include, this is especially true if you share drives between PCs or have a local file server, so I would expect the Networkx data to be always be higher.

That is only true if you don't set up NetworX correctly! See attached screenshot.
