HI
Im on broadband premium ADSL 2. Have had a very modest speed increase since changing over.
However, according the my Netgear modem interface im getting around 8700kps at the modem
but a speedtest shows i only achieve around 6000kps on the computer. I'm on a macintosh using ethernet.
Can anyone explain why there is such a discrepancy ?
thanks

Can you run the BT speedtest and see what it says for your IP Profile.
Then look at the current line speed reported by https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate which should be the same.
If it is not the same you need to contact support.
Note speed tests will always be lower than your sync rate reported by the modem. Firstly there are a lot of protocol overheads - the maximum theoretical speed on a line syncing at 8M is 7150, secondly the IP Profile speed which is the limit set by BT goes in steps. You could be syncing just below the threshold for the next step and lose out because of that.

@jonnyfriendly, your profile has been updated to 8000 (today) so you should be seeing better speeds now.
