line drops and poor speed

I raised this as question id 39258962, and had some useful response from Bob Pullen, who pointed to line drops and the possible necessity for a BT visit.
However - this has been dragging on for a week now, and nothing seems to be happening. typical stats:
download speedachieved during the test was - 642 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1056 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 750 Kbps
And from the router:
Link Information

Uptime: 0 days, 22:13:52
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 1,056
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 13.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 49.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 10.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 93 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 33 / 17,303
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 33 / 122
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 22 / 95
I get the problem every couple of months, with nothing changing inside my house. My question - what causes line drops, and can anybody with more technical knowledge than me (that's most!) help analyse the router stats?
TIA...Peter

Re: line drops and poor speed

Hi Peter,
have you kept your line plugged into the test socket since Friday?
