started about 5.00pm and cleared at 5.50pm, Inverness Macdhui exchange. Tried calling to report it but on hold for 40mins so gave up

Your timings don't quite match but I'd warrant a guess that it's related to this.

Over here on the West Coast mainland the router connected back up at 5.47pm this afternoon
