Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

There's obviously something seriously wrong, a fault has been raised and presumably an engineer appointment has been booked? There doesn't seem to be a lot for anyone else to do.

The warning of the possibility of charges for an engineer is a standard warning given to everyone, if you've done all the tests, are using the test socket etc., these are intended to minimize the chance that the problem is caused by your equipment or wiring, so you'd be unlikely to be charged. The £65 Plusnet would charge is much less than what most other ISPs would charge if something turns out to be your fault.

No-one else seems to have commented on the poor upstream speed in every set of stats posted.

I can see an engineer is booked, let us know how this goes.

Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

If you post the DSL stats now, we'd be able to see if the upstream speed has been fixed, and if the DLM need resetting.

Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

Current SNRM figures are in the region of 6dB. US synch is significantly faster. Both US & DS synch are close to the reported achievable rates.

Previously the SNRM was all over the place and the US synch was (as pointed out by ejs) was pants.

It's now a matter of "time will tell" if all of your issues have been resolved.

Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

the engineer said there was a loose wire hanging over  my wires in the main junction box in the street, could this have caused the fault above ?

thanks

Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

Anything which messes with the quality (and consistency) of your phone line can cause variable issues for broadband operation.

Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

Oh hum, I guess we are going to need to look at the "more of that later if we have to..." I mentioned in an earlier post.

First let me check something - you said you do not use the land line, however is there ANY extension wiring at all from the master socket?  Is the router close to the master socket using only the supplied cable to connect it to the socket?  Can you recall anything happening at the time it disconnected?

The 2704n router is something of a pig for gathering useful diagnostics - does you have access to any other routers?

Now for some theory to explain the stats you've reported.

  1. When a line resynchs, it will seek to establish a synch which delivers the TARGET SNRM normally 6dB above the then present noise
  2. Having synchronised it will remain at that synch speed until the link is dropped and it starts again at (1)
  3. If these was no noise present at synch time, the synch speed will be around the best the line can deliver
  4. If there is noise present at synch time, the attained speed will be slower than the best
  5. If the level of noise incrases, the reported CURRENT SNRM will go down, if it gets too low, synch will be lost and it starts at (1) again
  6. If the level of noise decreases the SNRM will rise and might well rise above the target - such circumstances would produce results similar to the first set of stats.

Spot stats such as these are to interperate in isolation from information about exactly what happened.  Did you restart the router between the two sets of stats?  Restarting the router - especially within the 10 day retraining day period (@CRT I presume that given a repair was perfo,d on this line, it has had a full SNRM rest?) - is not idea practice, as it could cause the DLM to take unhelpful aggressive action to "stabilise" the line.

Can you please check the line for noise immediately you notice a disconnection.

Please perform a quiet line test - dial 17070 select option 2 using a corded phone plugged into the test socket behind the face plate of the master socket. It should be silent. A noisy phone line (or no dial tone) will have a marked adverse impact on the performance of broadband.

If the line is noisy or there is no dial tone, then a PHONE LINE fault needs to be raised with your phone provider. If this is PlusNet, you can report a fault on line using the button below.

The key tell tale here is the reduced US bandwidth on the first set of stats ... which returns to normal on the second set.  Ideally I'd like to see some detailed monitoring here us No so,etching like router stats ... which unhelpfully the 2704n's interface does not lend its self to automated interrogation.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: internet keeps dropping after 10pm

the router was rebooted btween the stats as for wiring there is nothing else plugged in just router cable to master socket  i tried an old plusnet router (same model) also tried a technicolor tg582 pro, same problem occurs

Can you recall anything happening at the time it disconnected?- nothing happened it just started dropping

The key tell tale here is the reduced US bandwidth on the first set of stats where on stats is that ? is tht  the SNR Margin

thanks for your patience m8

ps

it hasnt dropped since 2nd set of stats also the engineer used something to check for noise in the room a silver box thingy
