I have noticed on my internet connections through Plus-net the following
LAN or high speed internet (connected), but also it is showing the following connected Internet Gateway which is something I have never seen before.
I Only have 1 PC hard wired into a Plus net internet box which connects into a phone socket, so wouldn’t need to share any connections.
It will not let me disconnect this connection.
It is showing it has been connected for the last 3 days.?

It's OK for it to show "Internet Gateway" as well as your High Speed Internet connection. This usually happens with UPnP enabled routers when windows is set to discover and display UPnP enabled devices.
It'll also show if you've run the Windows network wizard to set up your PC on a network.
Basically, the LAN or High Speed Internet is the ethernet card in your machine and the Gateway is your router. Sometimes you'll see something like PPoA Connection on Router next to the icon. (See screen shot).
