intermittent loss of routing ? plusnet

My connection occasionally needs a kick (this morning it took 5 mins to reconnect) but whenever i go to disconnect/reconnect it seems to still have sink and thinks all is well. All is not well until it is reconnected though.
i am wondering what I should look for. I have:
- configured static IP
- disabled SPI firewall (my router was periodically complaining about packets from the plusnet DHCP servers..)
- installed dgteam and configured additional dns servers (opendns)
- toyed with the always broadcast ARP setting having read a post about this
i am currently toying with a router script that tries to lookup a web address every 30 minutes and reconnects adsl if that fails however
does anyone have any thoughts on what might cause this?
should i try to dial down the speed (dial up the noise margin?) i have not touched that as yet.
the router is capable of operating for 2 weeks+ straight with no issues and i feel the old one probably was binned for similar reasons but in error. all the caps on the main board are new and it is a *very well ventilated* dgn2000.

Re: intermittent loss of routing ?

Perhaps some list or table for tracking connections within the router ends up full, for some unknown reason, and gets completely cleared when you reconnect.

Re: intermittent loss of routing ?

hmm ok ... any clues on which tables i might check .. presumably telnet etc to the netgear will help ... i will have a nose around

cant think what would be unique to me though ... this is stock netgear and have had 3 firmwares now .. just went to dgteam a month ago

Re: intermittent loss of routing ?

I havent found anything abnormal - wondering how i get one of those line noise plots in case it is purely a line issue?

Hi myforumid,
Below is a post of the your last month's connections logs:

There is no pattern to your disconnections. I've checked your line and everything initially appears to be OK.
Have you tried an alternative router?

Re: intermittent loss of routing ? plusnet

Very useful plot -  it ties up with the router logs i have.
There are clearly times when the router knows to reconnect and times when it doesnt realise its lost the session and just sits there doing nothing about it. I figure i need it to ping an address or something periodically and adsctl restart or whatever if it can't get a response. A friend suggested just enabling ddns might do it but this is probably a shell script on a schedule.
Its my third in 3 years and moving house soon - waiting on a site survey of the new place etc. before investing 🙂
