iPlayer streaming impossible

Ridiculous problems, as usual, trying to watch Question Time live tonight. Had to give up. Continuous buffering until it stalled altogether.
I have 16.91 download speed. (Gradually getting slower and slower, btw. But still fast enough to watch iPlayer easily.)
No problems with downloading updates, etc. Just streaming.
So is this Akamai, or what?
If I need to change the settings, how do I do that on a Mac using ethernet cable (not wireless)?

Re: iPlayer streaming impossible

I would say it's a peering issue to Akamai or the amount of bandwidth that plusnet has available via that crappy CDN box is insufficient just as the same as Telefonica uk (o2 .be retail) been there done that, itv player has buffering issues too, again that uses akamai cdn

Could this be why ?

Hi PlusComUK.
upon further investigation it will be because you are on unlimited where iPlayer desktop is limited to 2Mbps between 6pm-midnight.

Note the date, March 2012
I was on Unlimited, before Plusnet introduced Unlimited for all, that may have some bearing on this.
May be different nowadays.

Re: iPlayer streaming impossible

routed via france, that's awesome, no doubt seatel are back to the same dirty tricks they were using last year (grabbing network traffic by falsely advertising themselves as an empty quicker route...) because there getting paid for every megabit of data that traverses there routers......the answer last time was to modify all peering so it ignored them, but of course the "fixing " and changing of dns servers has probably removed those manual patches ...

Re: iPlayer streaming impossible

@PlusCom - thanks for that. No, don't have problems with other downloads - and usually do these late-nite due to my 10g limit and never noticed a slowdown.
Just did iPlayer diagnostics seems fine. (attached)
Tried a traceroute -- nothing at all! Let it run for ages. Think it got up to about 20 tries after many minutes. Weird.
@nanotm - you mean we're just stuck with this and nothing to do? Sheesh...

Re: iPlayer streaming impossible

re the tracert, it wont reach the target as with most things there set not to respond to pings to avoid ddos etc
stuck with it no, just make a fault ticket to plusnet about it, they are the only ones who can manually patch there routeing system, there is a manual setup to have a fixed route but its complicated and pointless for multi endpoint addresses, last time I used static routing tables it took 3 days to get them working properly and then an undersea cable got damaged which totally ruined my carefully created table ...
