They can run tests anyway, it's perhaps only the Modem that will have a direct effects on test results that may be run by BTw/Openreach, not the Router. Most of them won't give a stuff what Router you use - as long as it's not the source of PPP issues or blowing up the Modem!  Generally, as far as which Router is used, it's down to the level of support that might be possible.

done speed test with the plus net router connected

well as expected they said no faults on line and speed was performing within expectations of the 27 Mbps at the set up of service but i have no record of them saying that.
this was in email they sent before i was connected

plusnet have tested the line again today and I am happy to report the line is stable and the speed is  good at around 37Mbps
